Growing, Farming, Environment & Awards
Anthony and Lucy care passionately about the environment, and the way they farm reflects this. Tiptoe Farm lies in the beautiful River Till Valley, where the river is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and has recently been recognized as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) – Europe’s highest grading. The Tiptoe woodland is special and is graded as Ancient and Semi-Natural (A&SNW). View the Environmental Leaf report here.
The Tiptoe Farm ethos is one of growing with the countryside and to this end we practice Linking the Environment and Farming (LEAF). The farm has therefore adopted a system of farming that balances the needs of consumers for safe, healthy food that is grown with care, and enhancement of the environment. Tiptoe farm is annually inspected for the LEAF Marque accreditation, Sustainable Restaurant Association approved Supplier accreditation and the Red Tractor Accreditation. In September 2006 Tiptoe Farm was awarded ”Most Beautiful Farm in Britain Award” in recognition of all the environmental work that is carried out.
The Carroll Ethos is one of growing with the countryside and to this end we practice Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF). LEAF has now achieved the full membership of ISEAL (International Social and Environmental Accreditation and labelling) the global membership association for sustainability standards).
Tiptoe Farm is a LEAF Demonstration farm with the LEAF Marque accreditation, which is the backbone to all our farm practices. An annual inspection takes place to ensure that we are farming in an environmentally friendly way. Some examples of this are leaving 6 meter grass strips in the fields, with herbs and flower mixtures to encourage bees and birds.
2010 we became Red Tractor Accredited. The Red Tractor is a food assurance scheme which covers production standards developed by experts on safety, hygiene, animal welfare and the environment amongst other things. We all want to know that the food we are buying is safe and this only comes from knowing where the raw ingredients come from and the standards to which they are produced, which is why all suppliers in the Red Tractor food chain are inspected by an independent professional body.

Sustainable Restaurant Association – Approved Supplier
In 2014 and 2015 CARROLL’S HERITAGE POTATOES became an Approved Supplier of the Sustainable Restaurant Association. To become approved, suppliers are examined in 14 key focus areas and provide detailed evidence to support their answers across three main sustainability categories – Sourcing, Environment and Society. These assessments are carried out and overseen by the expert SRA assessors, who sign-off on our sustainability ratings and reports for national and International food service businesses known as “the Michelin stars of sustainability.”
